BioBiography The manga introduces our little daisy, Ashiya Mizuki, living in California, USA. She has a strict half brother, Shizuki, whose mother died. This girl grows up under the overprotective brother and parents' care and is an optimistic and often head strong teenage girl. When she was little, she ran away from home due to peer pressure. During that time, she met Gilbert, who is three years senior of Mizuki. Mizuki stayed at his place for the time being, and gradually nurtured a feeling of crush for him. However, it was returned to her when Gilbert told her that he wouldn't be more than just friends with Mizuki when she's still so young. That soon became a past for her when Mizuki fell in love with high jumping, or rather enjoying watching Izumi Sano high jumping at thirteen. Being a fan of the young Japanese jumper, Mizuki collects clips, photos and articles of Sano. Ultimately, she decides to go to Japan alone to see him jump in live. Thus, after a tiresome persuasion to her parents, she cuts her hair and gets ready to enroll into the same high school as Sano's. Interestingly, the high school is an all boys' school. Unbeknownst to her at first, she lives with Sano in the same room. Through several comedic situations, she found out the inevitable. Sano quit jumping. That fact sets Mizuki into a deep swirl of thoughts and ponderings and concerns. While she has to maintain her male image, she tries desperately to find out why Sano quit doing the sport he loves. During all these times with Sano, she grows from respect Unfortunately, her stay at Ousaka Gakuen ends in just these eventful months. Her cover is blown and is at stake of getting expelled if the principal finds out. Finally, Mizuki makes the decision to withdraw from the school with dignity. Despite leaving Sano makes her doubt her action at times. The episode in Ousaka Gakuen ends for Mizuki. She returns home and graduated from her high school and goes to University of California at Berkley, where one year later, the couple reunite. |
Personality This girl is overall a happy person. Mizuki is very confident when the situation calls for it, or else she can get reluctant to do certain tasks. Such cases like she’s so sure that she is the sole cause to Sano’s quittance of his beloved sport; and she’s very self-convinced, that by going to Sano’s school, she can make him high jump again. In that aspect, Mizuki lacks the ability to think objectively and often realistically, which makes her a head-strong and naïve girl. Like most people, she is unaware of her naivety until Dr. Umeda tells her. Nevertheless, Mizuki’s optimism welcomes many people and her bravery takes many more (even some of her “enemies”) in awe, despite the fact that Mizuki can be quite oblivious to other people (mainly those who don’t like her)’s jealousy provoked by her so many good doings and better characteristics. Speaking of obliviousness, Mizuki is inattentive and often unable to understand others’ feelings toward her at first (even though she spots these said feelings quite fast when she’s not part of it) and ignorant of her own growing affection toward that significant one (namely Sano). Thus causing those who don’t know her to view her as ‘cold’ and ‘stupid’. Mizuki is also persistent, or hardworking in a way that might mistakes people to see her as a nosy person. Ultimately, Ashiya Mizuki is nice, calm (most of the time) and can be somewhat spontaneous too. Something she doesn’t like: mustard, umeboshi, and any food that is very spicy. Of course, she is afraid of grasshoppers as stated above. Plus, if you have anything hot (items, mainly), better keep it/them a good distance away from Mizuki, in case if she freaks out on you when she’s, by chance, near it/them. |
